27-9. Life’s good, right? Not so much. 25 straight points for the opposition suffocate the Hogs and reward the Rams with their first win of 2018. The Rutgers collapse five years ago was a mirror image of the one we watched a week ago. 1st year head coaches in their first true road game, 20+ points to end the game for the opposition. And most importantly, two epic collapses by Arkansas. Just brutal. Until the quarterback situation is shored up it is going to be a long year for Razorback nation.
North Texas meanwhile has no problem at the position. Get ready to hear the name “Mason Fine” quite a bit. Mason is without a doubt one of the best players Arkansas will face all season. The gunslinger leads the nation with an average of 431 passing yards per game. Good news for Hog fans though; Dre Greenlaw and Randy Ramsey will see playing time. Randy will most likely be limited to a certain amount of plays, but he could be a huge impact to the defense.
Also, remember Cole Hedlund? The guy that missed two field goals last year against TCU before getting benched for good eventually transferred and landed at North Texas, where he is now the starting kicker for the Mean Green. He also drilled a 55 yarder against SMU last Saturday.
A positive to take away from the Colorado State game is the running game looked MUCH improved. Devwah Whaley ran to the tune of 26 carries for 165 yards and one TD. Hopefully they can have similar success this week.
This is a tough game to predict. Making it tougher is not knowing who will start for the Hogs. I am intrigued to see how they will respond to adversity for the first time under the brand new staff. Vegas pegged the Hogs as 6.5 point favorites. I’ll take the Mean Green to cover but the Hogs to stay undefeated at comfy Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
