Saturday was the most important game for Ohio State football in YEARS. The Buckeyes removed any doubt that I had about them going into this game with a masterful 4th quarter comeback. The one knock on QB Dwayne Haskins was that nobody knew how he would deal with pressure. Though he had his worst game of the year (statistically speaking), he was still electric in leading the game winning drives.
The defense struggled slightly due to the inability to put pressure on veteran Penn State QB Trace McSorely. This is in part because of losing Nick Bosa vs TCU and also because of McSorely’s knack of escaping the pocket. It wasn’t until the 4th quarter that the Ohio State decided to spy McSorely, a strategy that ended up winning the game for the Buckeyes.
The big MVP of last weekend was Chase Young, a Sophomore on the D-Line. Young was responsible for 2 batted balls, 2 sacks, and a multitude of tackles-for-loss. The biggest play he made was a stop on 4th and 5 with the game on the line. This performance was enough to earn him Big 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Looking ahead, this week will be a cakewalk, and Vegas would definitely agree with me on that. The spread is currently 25.5 and Ohio State will cover no questions asked. This game against Indiana will NOT be another iteration of last years humiliating loss to Iowa, despite how much of a “trap game” it is. Mark my words, Ohio State 52, Indiana 13.
