Oh Hogs. What have we done to deserve this pain. Here’s a stat that sums up Hog football the last few years, Arkansas has lost its last five SEC games when they are leading going into the 4th quarter. Ole Miss (2018), Missouri (2017), Mississippi State (2017), Texas A&M (2017), Missouri (2016).
The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes are on a five game losing skid after winning their season opener against UCA. Basically, Tulsa is not a very good football team. Arkansas will have to maneuver around some key injuries today, QB Ty Storey has been ruled out after taking a beating last week against Ole Miss. This leaves the spot open for Cole Kelley and Connor Noland. Coach Chad Morris told the media he would go with the guy that has the better week of practice. I would prefer to see Connor Noland under center in today’s game. Being a true freshman, a non-conference opponent for his first career start would be a great way to ease the Greenwood HS graduate into life as a college quarterback. Throwing him into the fire against the likes of Alabama and LSU can be detrimental to a quarterback in the early part of his career. Start Noland, and even if he throws a couple of picks on his first few possesions then you can always fall back to Cole to finish out the game.
Another key injury is RB Devwah Whaley will be out until mid November with an ankle sprain suffered last Saturday in The Rock. He had successful surgery on Tuesday of last week and will begin rehab soon. Rakeem Boyd has been the MVP of the Hogs so far this year, and has been one of the best RB’s in the SEC filling in for Devwah.
Other important news has to deal with Arkansas’ biggest recruiting target. Kelly Bryant, the former Clemson QB will be using his first of five possible official visits to visit Fayetteville this week. Hopefully all goes well during his visit.
Arkansas is in desperate need of a win, especially after the heartbreaker last week. I believe the Hogs will get their seconf victory of the year, and Arkansas becomes the favorite to land Kelly Bryant after a amazing homecoming weekend in Fayetteville.
