This Is the Right Article at the Wrong Time…

Okay, I know how this is going to come off, and I’m sorry if you take it as me being a salty fan of a team with a BAD loss. I say that because this is VERY important to anyone who likes college football, or even just competition in general. The College Football Playoff must be changed. It was great for the first few seasons, and is FAR superior to the old BCS system, but it’s time for some improvements.

My first suggestion is that there needs to be an 8-team playoff. The 4 team system just does not cover all the baseis that it was intended to or that it needs to. Right now, it’s the Alabama invitational. they have made it every year, even when they did not meet the qualifications that the CFP Committee had set back in 2014. There will always be at least one major conference left out of the biggest tournament in CFB. This is not only bad for the fans, as it means less competition and less college football, but it also hits the NCAA where it hurts. Their pockets.

FS1’s Colin Cowherd has said multiple times on his show that the constant coastal championships isolate the viewing audience. I could not agree more. The most viewed CFP Championship game in the CFP era was Ohio State vs. Oregon, and the reason is that it hits multiple markets. The south will watch CFB no matter who’s playing, but the same can’t be said for the rest of the country. The last few years have been relatively unappealing to anyone not in the Southeast Atlantic Coast.

To combat both of these problems, there needs to be 8 teams. The 5 Power Five conference champions (Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, Pac 12) as well as the best team in the Group of Five (American, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt). The final 2 teams should be the most deserving non-champs. These two had the best resumes in the country, as well as passing the eye-test.

This is a very simple fix to everything that is wrong with the College Football Playoff. It gives us more college football, as well as more competitive college football. It also gives people from every region in the US a reason to tune in to these playoffs. This post is not me being a butt-hurt OSU fan who is mad that we got steamrolled by the Boilermakers, this is my solution to what many see as a HUGE flaw in an otherwise incredible sport.

For this reason, I will be giving my playoff predictions from this point on based on the Top 8 rather than the Top 4. @NCAA, when you make this change then the whole TTS team is expecting credit or compensation. We all know you have the cash to spare since you con’t give your players a DIME…
