Oh boy. This week has been just another example of what being a Cleveland sports fan entails. The Cavaliers decided to part ways with coach Tyronn Lue early Sunday, this coming after an 0-6 start for the team. Though this was the worst start in the NBA this season, the Cavs STINK. This mess is not Ty Lue’s fault, it’s Dan Gilbert. Gilbert couldn’t stand not being the face of the Cavs, so he chased of the GOAT twice. Going from a Final’s winning coach to the worst team in the NBA is tough, but I’m not sure any coach could win with the current Cavs roster. Larry Drew will take his crack at the interim HC job while Cleveland explores all options. The only bright spots on the team are Kevin Love, J.R Smith, and my 2nd favorite player; the great Cedi Osman. Needless to say, Love is already out for at least 1 month and Cedi can’t do it all for this awful team. Gilbert should just full on tank, and send Cedi to LA so LeBron has a decent SG instead of KCP who has been abysmal this season.
If that wasn’t enough, Cleveland’s other team purged their staff as well. Head Coach Hue Jackson was let go after a 2-5-1 start to this season. That might not sound too bad for the Browns, but he has the 218th worst record out of 219 all time coaches with 40+ games under their belt. Hue finished his tenure with a whopping 3-36-1 record as Head Coach. They also decided to part ways with OC Todd Haley. Haley has been clashing with Jackson ever since the Hard Knock’s showing, and the organization cited that as a major factor in his firing. Amidst this mess, DC Gregg Williams was promoted to interim head coach. The defense has been mostly solid this season, and Williams will be a good fit while the team searches for their future frontman.
The candidates are intriguing to say the least, and my favorite of the bunch is Oklahoma HC Lincoln Riley. Riley has a history with QB Baker Mayfield, and could be the mind that the Browns need to finally reach their offensive potential. Other less likely options are Jim Harbaugh of Michigan and Sean McVay of the Rams. Whoever the Browns find, they will undoubtedly be better with this move. Watch out for the Brownies next season!
