Since this article will be the last SOTH until 2019, let’s recap the five best Hog games of 2018.
Starting at #5…
Hogs 5 UA-Little Rock 1
Head Coach Colby Hale and the Arkansas soccer team were PERFECT at home. No losses in 11 matches, including a 5-1 victory over in-state foe UALR. The match was also the first game of the NCAA Tournament, where the Hogs have become a staple in. They have made an appearance in the postseason five times in the past six seasons.
Hogs 6 Wichita State 4
Arguably the best season in Razorback softball history. They were able to defeat the Shockers to win the Fayetteville regional to advance to a super regional for the first time in school history. Mary Hoff pitched two excellent games to shut down Wichita State. Autumn Buczek ended the game by making a terrific catch by diving into foul territory to clinch their spot in the Norman super regional.
Hogs 95 Tennessee 93
The debut conference game of the 2018 campaign was a tough matchup against the 19th ranked Volunteers. Daryl Macon put up a career-high 33 points, and Jaylen Barford finished with 28, also a career-best. This was a crucial game to start conference season on the right foot, especially in front of a rowdy Bud Walton Arena.
Hogs 11 Texas 5
Can I get a horns down?
Luke Bonfielf and the OmaHogs powered past a struggling Longhorn pitching staff en route to a 11-5 victory. The play of the game had to be Heston Kjerstad bulldozing over Texas first baseman Jake McKenzie, leading to a minor scuffle between the two.
Hogs 14 South Carolina 4
In the third game of a best-of-three super regional, Arkansas took care of business and pummeled the Gamecocks. Baum Stadium erupted when Eric Cole made the final out, leading to the epic dog-pile in the infield. Hog fans will remember that game for a long, long time.
Can’t wait for a great 2019.
