Last Saturday night, Paul Pierce was asked who had a better career, him or Dwyane Wade, and his answer sparked memes and comparisons across the internet.
“That’s easy,” Pierce said. “I could say that off the bat — that’s me. If you give me Shaq, if you give me LeBron, if you give me these guys early in my career … when I was 24 years old, you give me Shaq, when I was 25, give me LeBron … I’d be sitting on five or six championships, easy. I played 10 years with who? With who?”

Many around the league had something to say on the matter, including current and former NBA players like Jared Dudley, Jalen Rose, and even Wade himself. Dudley stated that “Cocaine is helleva drug! Both has great careers but Dwade is 3rd best SG of all-time” which prompted Wade to quote tweet “You said it better than i could“. Even the Heat guard’s son Zaire got in on the fun, with an IG story.
Now, Pierce is an all-time great NBA player, top 50 in almost everyone’s rankings. Unfortunately, he’s going up against one of the 15-20 best players ever. Like Dudley said, it’s Jordan, Kobe, Wade; and Pierce is nowhere in the top of even his positional ranking. Paul has said a lot of dumb things on national television, but this may top the list.
Now even if you’re leaning towards Pierce in this debate, I challenge you to look at the 2 games after this statement was made. 2 seperate crowds erupted in “Paul Pierce sucks” chants, one of them being Pierces former team, the Brooklyn Nets.
Paul, you said that if you had prime Shaq (which wade didn’t either) and LeBron with you then you’d be sitting on 5 or 6 ‘ships, but do you know who you played with??. Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen for heaven’s sakes, and even the White Mamba himself, Brian Scalabrine. Acting as though you played with a bunch of bums is inaccurate and completely disrespectful to a top 25 player in Garnett, and all time smart PG in Rondo, and (arguably) the 2nd best shooter of all time in Allen.
Cmon Truth, you gotta know better than this. Wade has a love that few players do, in that fans and rivals cheer for his success. You don’t have the love that these stars have, and that’s okay, just know your role.
