Big 12 Season Preview: #10

The Big 12 has been owned by the Oklahoma Sooners for the last four seasons. However, with no Kyler Murray or Baker Mayfield, other schools smell the blood, especially arch-rival and sleeping giant Texas Longhorns. Here’s a look of how I believe the conference will shape out for the 2019-2020 season.

Kansas: 3-9 (1-8)

The Jayhawks have been stuck at the bottom of the Big 12 for quite some time now and I don’t see that changing this season. Although they did show some signs of life in the David Beaty era, they could never get over the hump. The next man up to try and fix this dumpster fire of a program is none other than former LSU all-time great, Les Miles.

‘The Mad Hatter’ as they call him has a lot of work to do elevate KU from the bottom of the conference. He loses 3 of his top 4 leading receivers, quarterback, and nearly the entire front 7. The offense does have some hope, however, with stud sophomore running back Pooka Williams Jr returning behind an experienced offensive line. Mesa CC transfer Thomas MacVittie takes over the starting quarterback position over from returning senior Carter Stanley. The 6’5″ JUCO product showed flashes of potential at the JUCO level but I believe it’ll take another year before he can do real damage in the Big 12.

I have Kansas starting off the season 2-0 with home wins over Indiana St and Coastal Carolina. Defense will be a huge problem all season long in a league full of high octane offenses. It will be a struggle scrap out another win, but I do think they have a shot in home games against West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Kansas St. I believe they will be able to knock off an upset over their in-state rival Kansas St, which will be huge for recruiting and will be a marquee win in Miles’ first season.

There is hope, Jayhawk fans. This year may not be the year, or the next, but the Mad Hatter is here and he is here to win some football games.
