Ranking the Uniforms of the Pac-12

If there’s one off-field discussion that could hold it’s weight with any on field debate, it’s the battle of the uniforms. As “Neon” Deion Sanders once said, “If you look good, you feel good, If you feel good, you play good, If you play good, they pay good.” While the NCAA obviously isn’t looking to pay anyone, most athletes would tend to agree with Primetime’s initial assertion. Today, we’re going to be ranking the different looks from around the Pac-12.

12. Colorado Buffaloes

Coming in at number twelve are the Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffs color palette doesn’t really do the look too many favors to begin with, but pair that with a boring modernized style and you get yourself the worst uniforms in the Pac-12.

11. Stanford Cardinal

This is the quintessential football uniform. Nothing really bad about it but there is also nothing that makes the Cardinal stand out. I couldn’t put it any higher, couldn’t put it any lower, a true number eleven.

10. Washington Huskies

This one was honestly very disappointing for me. The Huskies have one of the more interesting color schemes in the country, and to see that potential be wasted on these relatively simple concepts. That’s not to say that a clean uniform can’t be solid, but I just feel that there was a missed opportunity from the creative department over at UW.

9. USC Trojans

The University of Southern California. While they rep possibly the most recognizable looks in all of college football, I don’t think that they are even on the same level as those ahead of them when it comes to best uniform. I have always been against the lack of a nameplate on jerseys, and that doesn’t really change when I look at the Trojans.

8. Arizona Wildcats

Arizona was able to sneak into the eighth-spot mostly due to their variety. The navy-and-red combo is surprisingly rare in college football, and the Cats are one of the best to do it. The red chrome helmet has looked good for most teams that have rocked it (Louisville and Arkansas to name a few), and this is no different. Very solid looks coming out of Tucson.

7. Oregon State Beavers

This will likely come as one of the more controversial picks on this list, but I absolutely love the color combination on these uniforms. Standing with Oklahoma State, these stand as one my favorite orange unis in the country, and very deserving of the seven spot.

6. Washington State Cougars

As I mentioned earlier with Wazzu’s in-state rivals, clean uniforms can be some of the best looking. The Cougars are a perfect example of this. The numbers are able to pop due to the size and font and the helmets are simple with the “WSC” shining on the sides. Also, call me crazy but I absolutely love the anthracite uniforms, and would love to see more teams implement something similar as an alternate.

5. Arizona State Sun Devils

Arizona State would be far higher on this list if it was based simply on my favorite uniform for each team, but as it stands the five spot is as high as they could make it. The blackout uniform that were debuted against Michigan State in 2018 was one of the best I’ve ever seen. Along with that, the ability to play with different styles and colors makes the Sun Devils a clear contender for best uniform in the Pac-12.

4. Utah Utes

This picture doesn’t even do justice for just how beautiful these uniforms look on the field. A nod to tradition plus a chromed out helmet equals a phenomenal style that could only be as low as fourth in a conference like the Pac-12. Utah has a great color scheme as is, and really don’t have a look in the arsenal that doesn’t have fans around the country looking twice.

3. Cal Golden Bears

This is likely going to be another point of controversy, but I think that Cal has one of the best looks in all of college football. While navy and gold may be an over-utilized color scheme, the Golden Bears are able to add a twist that nobody else has quite figured out. Blue, gray, or gold, you can bet on Cal coming out in some fire week in and week out.

2. Oregon Ducks

When you hear the word “alternate”, it’s hard not to immediately think ability the Oregon Ducks. Their partnership with Nike is one of the most known around the college football world, and they have put out some of the most surprising looks in the country over the years. This does not mean, however, that they have the best look in all of college football, or even the Pac-12 in my opinion.

1. UCLA Bruins

It’s not easy to knock off Oregon in any Pac-12 battle, and UCLA may not do it on the field for years to come, but today the Bruins stand atop the conference as the best uniform. I think that these could be argued against any in college football, and I think that there’s a good chance they beat any other uniform in the country. The gold on the powder blue is one of the cleanest looks that I have seen in any sport in my life, and they are more than deserving of the number one spot on this list.
